Hello all ❤️

I hope this week has been a creative one.

Is Land Art Beautiful or Problematic?

I’m so pleased to share my latest video essay on YouTube, a complete overview of Land Art, asking the question: is land art beautiful, or is it problematic?

Land art has a complicated history, fraught with controversy, yet it’s also responsible for some of the most beautiful and ambitious artworks ever made.

In this video essay, I trace the movement from its emergence in the 1960s, then step back further to its early precursors, to understand how we got here.

I unpack land art’s close relationship with the early environmental movement and Indigenous rights, and the debates and criticisms that have followed it.

Throughout, I spotlight the artists that have emerged in every decade, closing with an overview of the contemporary artists who are still working with the land today.

Art Prompt

Inspired by Arch Budzar’s cow animation, pick a quote and use it as inspiration for a creative project. You could create your own quote or use a pre-existing one, but allow it to guide your process in whatever medium you use.

See you next Sunday 👋

Thank you so much!
