Dear art friends,

This week I discovered the work of Alix Vernet through this film. Her process peels objects and texture from New York City and felt like a fitting lead-in to our search for inspiration. The rest take us to flickers of light, illustration inspired by the live sounds of jazz, and desire penned on a mussel shell.

Hope to see you there!

Dear art friends,

This week I find myself fascinated with shape—wondering through spider webs, silver suits on tie guards, and candles woven like willow. I felt pause upon finding places drawn in thread and poking through pricked paper, like floating memories.

Dear art friends,

This week I found inspiration in roaring ceramics, hair grown as a throne, star-speckled fingers, fig skins, and a pink candle held in its own ceramic home. Its walls crackled like plaster, and I felt the Autumn calling to me.

Think more deeply about framing. Inspired by Ania Rekas, whose cat portrait on ceramic is framed by an elaborate lattice of clay, or Esme and Bird, whose wall sconses frame the warmth of candlelight. Either framing a piece of your own, or perhaps a piece of art in your home, push the role of a frame beyond the functional.

Once again, so grateful to join you here.

See you next Sunday.

The history of art is filled with masterpieces. The history of making is filled with attempts.

Research into creativity suggests that prolific creators don’t necessarily produce better work each time they create. They simply produce more opportunities for exceptional work to emerge.

We remember the masterpiece. We rarely see the hundreds of experiments that made it possible.

This week: Make the next piece.

See you next Sunday.

Hello all ❤️

I hope I am reaching you creatively inspired.

Here are my magical art finds from the week.

Introducing Art Mapped, the new series where we visit art destinations around the world with Omio: the travel booking app making journeys simple.

For our first episode, I travelled across the UK to find artworks by Invader, the mysterious French street artist best known for his 4,000+ pixelated mosaics scattered across 80 cities worldwide 👾

I started my journey by taking a train to London, touring two hotspots for Invaders: Soho and Shoreditch. I wanted to find more, so I travelled to Manchester. Omio made the entire journey simple. I easily compared routes and prices, booked my tickets, and kept my journey details safe in the app.

In Omio, you can book trains, buses, flights, and ferries, with all your tickets stored safely in one place. For our community, Omio is offering an exclusive discount for new customers: 12% off your first journey using the code ARTMAPPED12.

I enjoyed this trip so much, finding over 50 artworks and exploring places I had never been before! I encourage you to follow your passion and travel for the discovery of art. I’m delighted to make this a little more accessible with this discount just for you.

Just a reminder: the submission deadline for Secret 7" from War Child is fast approaching!

Secret 7” takes seven tracks from some of the world’s best-known musicians: this year, that’s John Lennon, The Last Dinner Party, Gabrielle, The Maccabees, Skin, Glass Animals, and Bastille.

Each track is pressed 100 times onto vinyl, creating 700 limited-edition 7” records. Each sleeve will feature a unique artwork submitted by 700 of you.

Once printed, all 700 sleeves are exhibited at a free exhibition and available to acquire through an online auction, raising funds that will change the lives of children affected by conflict. The artists’ identities and the track inside? A mystery until the record is in the hands of the buyer.

Submit your artwork by 1st June 2026.
